It is with unbridled excitement that the Cedartown-Polk County Humane Society announces that we finally have a “home” from which to serve Cedartown and Polk County.

Property located at 3416 Rockmart Highway in Cedartown has been generously given to establish a shelter for neglected and abused animals. The 4.7 acres includes a house, a Quonset-like structure, two other outbuildings that are being rehabbed to house and provide a variety of other services to needy animals.

A Family’s Sadness Fulfills a Community’s Dream

In January 2021, Cedartown native Kerry Hall passed away after a short battle with cancer. Kerry loved animals… all kinds of animals… dogs, cats, birds, and even turtles, and during her life she welcomed and cared for scores of animals on her property located between Cedartown and Rockmart.

When she died, her family could think of no better way to honor her memory than to donate her house and outbuildings to become a permanent, official no-kill shelter and adoption center for the creatures she loved so dearly.

The Hall family has transformed their loss into a living memorial that fulfills the dream of Cedartown-Polk County Humane Society and the hundreds of volunteers who have supported the organization since it was founded in 2014.

How you can help

With seed money from a private foundation, the property is currently being cleaned out and renovated to being its important work.

But there is always a need for more funding… especially for daily operating costs that will accompany the services that will soon be provided at the shelter.

And there will be an increased need for volunteers to help process, feed, clean, exercise, and love the animals who end up at the shelter.

And please consider volunteering your time, prayers, voice, and love to creatures who cannot speak for themselves.
