Mr. Alvis Lee Gable, age 85, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025.
Mr. Gable was born November 6, 1939, in Buchanan, Georgia, son of the late Alan Gable and Inez Adkins Gable.
Mr. Gable spent most of his life in Haralson County, Georgia, a place he proudly called home. He worked for many years in construction as a skilled heavy equipment operator.
His heart, however, was always in the outdoors—he found true joy in farming and felt most at peace when working the land. He took great pride in his garden and in raising cattle, pigs, chickens, and goats, always caring for them with great dedication.
A man of strong faith, Mr. Gable was a devoted member of the Baptist church and lived his life in service to God. Above all, he loved his family deeply. He shared a special bond with his grandchildren. The love and guidance he gave them left a lasting mark, and his absence will be felt profoundly by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gable is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mrs. Betty Jane Watson Gable; and brothers and sisters: Billy Gable, Dub Gable, Roy Gable, Hayward Gable, Wilbert Gable, Hazel Warren, and Faye Hulsey.
Mr. Gable is survived by his daughter Tammy Shellhouse; two grandchildren, Joshua Shellhouse, and Dylan Simmons; brother, David gable and his wife, Vickie; sister, Vera Lee Price; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home, with Reverend Randy Vines officiating.
Mr. Gable’s family will receive friends, also on Wednesday, at the funeral home from 12:00 in the afternoon until the service hour.
The Smith & Miller Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mr. Alvis Lee Gable.
