The rain and thunder keep rolling over Polk County after showers began around lunchtime, and forecasters are getting worried about rising waters again.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City placed Polk County and surrounding areas under a Flash Flood Warning through 8 p.m.

Included in the warning is Paulding, Haralson, and portions of Carroll County as well.

Thunderstorms producing rain of at least an inch were spotted earlier around 3 p.m., and were expected to head through Cedartown, Rockmart, Dallas, and Buchanan through the afternoon hours.

Expect flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, streets and underpasses as well as any areas with poor drainage.

DO NOT ATTEMPT to drive through floodwaters, since they are likely deeper than expected and the chances of a vehicle stalling and requiring officials to conduct water rescues during dangerous conditions increases.

Additionally avoid flooded areas on foot as well, and be aware of surroundings and weather conditions through the rest of the evening.

Polk remains under a flash flood watch through Wednesday at 2 a.m. A Severe thunderstorm watch is also in place until 5 p.m.

Check back for additional updates as they become available.
