Polk County primary voters for the GOP and the Democrats made their preference clear for party nominations for president in 2024. They want the rematch between former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.

Some 3,682 primary voters cast a ballot for the Republican party’s nomination decision, and the majority of those people participating out of more than 25,000 registered voters decided that former President Trump was their candidate of choice for the race.

Former President Trump gained 3,415 votes toward the party nomination. Former Ambassador Nikki Haley – who stayed in the race officially until the March 5 results went in Trump’s favor again – did gain 218 votes in the race. Single digit figures were recorded for a long list of candidates preferred in the race besides the former President.

President Biden got all but a handful of votes for the Democratic Primary. President Biden gained 398 votes in the primary locally, and 427 overall.

Both the former President and President have taken most if not all the delegates they need to gain the nominations this summer during the party conventions. Trump leads with 1,185 delegates, and needs 1,215 delegates to clinch the nomination outright.

Biden has 2,015 delegates for the Democratic nomination as of today’s primaries, securing the 1,968 he needed as of the conclusion of the latest round of primaries across the country.

As of this posting, the Secretary of State’s office put former President Trump in the driver’s seat for another big win in the party in Georgia. He held 438,816 of the 520,478 votes cast and counted so far.

President Biden held 232,790 of the votes counted as of this posting in the Democratic primary out of 244,285 ballots cast.
