Presidents Day is special this year, because not only is Polk celebrating the birthday of a founding father and one of the nation’s greatest leaders, but also starting the state’s process of deciding who will be on the ballot for the next president this year.

Early voting is now underway in Polk County and across the state for the Presidential Preference Primary for both the GOP and Democratic parties for the 2024 nominations for each national convention later this summer.

Voters are able to get their ballots cast ahead of the March 12 primary day through the next three weeks in Cedartown and Rockmart.

On the west side of the county, the Goodyear Civic Center at 108 Prior Street is the early voting precinct to visit starting today and through March 8. Voters on the eastern side of the county can visit the Nathan Dean Community Center at 605 Goodyear Ave., Rockmart.

Both precincts are open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voters will need to bring a photo ID with them to cast a ballot.

Saturday voting is being split this year between the two precincts. Early voting on Saturday, February 24 is being held in Cedartown at the Goodyear Civic Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The following Saturday on March 2, voters will be able to cast a ballot in Rockmart at the Nathan Dean Community Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well.

Along with the split schedule for Saturdays, extra hours are being provided on two Friday dates. In Rockmart, voters can come up to 7 p.m. on February 23, and in Cedartown on March 1 the hours will be extended to 7 p.m. as well.

Registration to vote in the presidential preference primary ended last Monday, February 12.
