The Presidential Preference Primary in Georgia is up and running as early voting got underway on Presidents Day.

So far, 91 ballots have been cast in the race to determine who Georgia’s state parties will vote for this summer at nominating committees for who will be on the ballot for the Presidency this fall.

Cedartown turned out 57 voters on the opening day of early voting, and Rockmart’s precinct brought out 34 voters. Additionally, some 89 absentee ballots by mail were requested. One was already returned back to the County for processing.

Early voting continues today through March 8 on weekdays and two special Saturday voting periods ahead of the March 12 Presidential Primary Day.

Early voting precincts are available on both sides of Polk County. Voters can go to the west side of the county, the Goodyear Civic Center at 108 Prior Street for the early voting precinct, and on the eastern side of the county ballots can be cast at the Nathan Dean Community Center at 605 Goodyear Ave., Rockmart.

Both precincts are open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Voters will need to bring a photo ID with them to cast a ballot.

Saturday voting is being split this year between the two precincts. Early voting on Saturday, February 24 is being held in Cedartown at the Goodyear Civic Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The following Saturday on March 2, voters will be able to cast a ballot in Rockmart at the Nathan Dean Community Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well.

Along with the split schedule for Saturdays, extra hours are being provided on two Friday dates. In Rockmart, voters can come up to 7 p.m. on February 23, and in Cedartown on March 1 the hours will be extended to 7 p.m. as well.

Registration to vote in the presidential preference primary ended last Monday, February 12.
