Polk County Emergency Management officials this afternoon are thankful that major threats of severe weather moving into Polk aren’t as serious as previously forecasted, but rain and wind will still impact the area.

The wind advisory remains in place and officials have reported forecasts that winds could gust as high as 50 miles per hour in Polk heading into the overnight hours. The advisory from the NWS forecasters in Peachtree City expires at 1 a.m.

“The warm front did not come as far north as forecasted,” EMA Director Bobby Dockery reported in an email update this afternoon.

He added that his office will continue to monitor the situation through the rest of the afternoon as it develops. They’ll also be watching for the threat of winter weather on Monday night and into Tuesday as freezing temperatures are set to return to Polk.

Check back for additional updates as required.
