A house on Atlanta Highway in the Rockmart area was damaged by fire this afternoon, which caused officials to shut down the roadway while emergency personnel battled the blaze and the cleanup afterward.

Polk County Volunteer Firefighters initially responded to the blaze – caused by a chimney fire – around 1:17 p.m. and was joined by Rockmart Fire and Rescue and the Cedartown Fire Department to help put out the fire.

Per officials, no one was injured and the occupants made it out safely.

The Polk County Volunteer Fire Department thanked the Cedartown and Rockmart Fire Departments for their help on the scene.

The roadway was closed for around two hours while cleanup was underway.

Officials say the house was damaged around the chimney and an upstairs area. The cause of why the chimney caught the rest of the house on fire is unknown at this time.
