Local officials reported within the past week two different homeless men found deceased in the Cedartown, and one will likely have to be identified at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Lab.

Polk County Coroner Norman Smith reported that the first body was discovered on February 13, 2024 in a wooded area off of Irwin Street in the Cedartown area outside of the city limits by an acquaintance. Officials were able to identify the body as that of Anthony Hale, 58.

The cause of Hale’s death remains unknown pending the results of an autopsy.

A second body was discovered on Monday afternoon, February 19, by other homeless in a wooded area near the Dollar General Market on North Main Street in Cedartown. His body was sent off to the GBI Crime Lab for further investigation and identification. His remains were found several days after it was believed he passed away.

Smith said additional information about the identity of the second homeless man will be provided after more investigation is completed by the Crime Lab.

Those who might have any information about the individual found on Monday can contact Capt. Chris Reed at the Cedartown Police Department.

No foul play is suspected in either discovery per officials.
