Storms are headed for Polk County and the surrounding area once again as the National Weather Service calls for severe weather impacts through the rest of the day.

Per the NWS forecast from Peachtree City, the worst of it is going to hit Central Georgia, but windy conditions, potential for scattered thunderstorms and rain is returning for the second time this week.

Chances for thunderstorms are expected through the afternoon hours, and a wind advisory in in place until 1 a.m. on Saturday.

No immediate watches or warnings are in effect for Polk other than the wind advisory. Those might change as the latest storm front moves through.

Currently predictions call for wind gusts up to 40 mph in Polk as the storm system moves through, with at least a tenth of an inch of rain predicted before it begins to clear out overnight.

This round of wet weather is part of a larger system pushing across much of the country as the week ends, bringing another round of blizzards and snow to the Midwest and Northeast.

Following today’s stormy weather, MLK Holiday Weekend forecasts call for temperatures to remain in the upper 40s through the daytime, and down into the 20s at night. There are chances of early morning snow for MLK Day and potential for snow and rain and then rain to mix in and really muck up holiday plans, but Monday night the temps are expected to dip enough for rain showers to return to snow showers and cause problems aplenty.

Currently those chances are at 40%.

Highs Tuesday are expected to only get up to 32, and down to 9 degrees, and remain just above freezing on Wednesday and down to 18 overnight.

Check back for additional updates as they become available this afternoon as the forecast continues to develop.
