A mid-winter warm-up is also bringing some wet weather as a flood watch in effect through Friday.

The National Weather Service’s flood watch is set to officially begin at 7 p.m., but the opening round of rainfall has already arrived in Polk County as showers and thunderstorms is expected through the night, Thursday and into Friday.

Temperatures are only down to 60 degrees overnight, and are back up to 71 on Thursday as at least an inch of rain falls overnight and another inch is expected on Thursday alone. The flood watch includes the surrounding Northwest and West Georgia area, extending from Dade down to Troup County along the Alabama state line and over to the Metro Atlanta area eastward.

Additional waves of showers and thunderstorms are also expected over the weekend, and upward of four inches of rainfall are expected over the coming days.

Be prepared in low-lying areas for localized flooding and rainwater runoff causing pooling on roads, around creeks and rivers, and flood plains generally.

Check back for further updates as they become available.
