The first round of the background for a new mural in downtown Rockmart went on last weekend, and another round of painting for the same color will be needed before Rockmart High School student Elizabeth Stone can begin adding in the design along the side of Brackett Cleaners.
Friends came to help Stone with the work on November 7, and they had the wall painted before noon during a morning evening at the North Marble Street location.
Stone’s mom Maria Norris said a second coat of the background will be going up in days to come before the design is added. A specific date for when the next round of painting will begin wasn’t yet announced.
Volunteers are still needed to help paint, and those interested can can call The Perch on Marble at 678-685-4799 and sign up for a time slot.
The mural project, organized with the help of The Perch on Marble owner Stacey Lovvorn, is being completed in part to help Stone have additional artwork to include in a portfolio she hopes to submit to The Savannah College of Art and Design.
