Rockmart High School’s Elizabeth Stone had to take a pause due to cold temperatures of winter for a while on the downtown mural still underway, but the positive message on the wall is now plain to see.

Stone’s mural focusing on “good vibes” is making new progress – with flowers added on each side of the words – in the work that has been underway since November 2020 to create a new image along the exposed wall of the Brackett Cleaners building.

The work is being completed thanks to donations and in coordination with The Perch on Marble owner Stacey Lovvorn. It’s replacing the one that had been up for decades that was fading away that represented the arts.

Once completed, Stone plans to use the mural as part of her overall portfolio of work to present in her application in coming years to the Savannah College of Art and Design.

After she finishes, it will be one of several murals in Polk County that have been completed in recent years. Most of those are located in downtown Cedartown, and feature local history and culture as the main themes.
