
Mr. Robert Spencer “Bob” Smith, age 81 of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025 at his residence surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on May 7th, 1944 in Cartersville, Georgia to the late Mrs. Christine Brock and Mr. Herman Spencer Smith of Cedartown.
Bob served in the United States Marine Corps for six years during the Vietnam War era. His time was spent on ships as well as submarines in the Mediterranean. Near the end of his enlistment, Bob served for a number of years at the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland.
Bob loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was gifted in working with his hands and very mechanically inclined, able to fix or rebuild anything.
Bob had a soft spot for animals of all kinds, but especially his beloved cats.
More than anything, he adored spending time with his family and could oftentimes be found cheering them on in their various endeavors as their #1 fan.
Bob was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee and Mamie Brock; his mother, Mrs. Christine Brock Smith; his father, Mr. Herman Spencer Smith; and his sister, Mrs. Linda Smith Mitchell, all of Cedartown.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Mrs. Cathy May Smith; daughters, Nicole Smith, Christina Smith and Robyn Ward; grandchildren, Blake Smith, Breckin Lewis, Jacob Lewis, Spencer Ward and Sunny Ward; great-grandchildren, Miss Sara Smith and Miss Autumn Lewis; nephews, Tony Mitchell (Tammy) and Tim Mitchell (Celia); and brother-in-law, Mike May.
Graveside inurnment services will be held on Saturday May 24, 2025 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon, in the family plot of Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Cedartown, with Pastor Jarrod Kinsey officiating and Mr. Fred Green sharing a eulogy. Military rites will be rendered by the Rockmart American Legion Brown-Wright Post 12 Honor Guard.
Following the services Friendship Baptist Church will host a reception for the family in the church’s fellowship hall.
