A Carrollton woman was taken into custody on DUI and child endangerment charges after she went into a ditch at the intersection of North Bellview Road at Terry White Road on New Year’s Eve, per Polk County Police reports.
Tabatha Nicole Harrison, 27, of a Carrollton, Georgia address, was taken into custody at the scene of the wreck in the middle of Polk County after police responded to the wreck that was reported around 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2022.
Per reports, officers immediately noted the alcohol coming from Harrison, who had gotten lost trying to get from Carrollton to Rome and didn’t know which way she was going at the time. The report noted that tire marks left from her 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe made police believe she was turning left from North Bellview onto Terry White Road before she ended up in the ditch.
Police noted several other reasons why they believed she was more than normally intoxicated, with slurred speech and being unable to spell one of her children’s names correctly and provide a correct date of birth.
Harrison refused to give a breath or blood sample when she was taken into custody by officers. She did get “on the phone and asked someone to come get her kids.”
“She told the person that she was going to jail. She then mentioned that officers could smell the alcohol and that she had too much to drink,” the report stated. A relative came to to take the children home.
Harrison told officers she only had two glasses of wine before getting behind the wheel.
She was charged on December 31, 2022 for Driving Under the Influence – concentration is .08G or more within 3 hours or more, two counts of DUI – child endangerment and one count of failure to maintain lane. All were misdemeanor charges.
Harrison was later released after the New Year’s Eve arrest on a $4,342 bond.
