An Atlanta woman remained in the Polk County Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after she was found early on Thursday morning behind the wheel in the parking lot of the Rockmart Highway Food Mart drunk and asleep behind the wheel with a five-year-old child beside her in the passenger seat.

Polk County Police were initially called out to the convenience store on Rockmart Highway for a welfare check on the black Kia sedan that was in the parking lot at 7:19 a.m. on Thursday, December 29.

There they found Pakita Latrice Collins, 39, of an Atlanta address, behind the wheel, she was passed out while the car was still running.

The reporting officer woke her up, and asked her to step out of the car and it appeared immediately that she was driving under the influence, and at one point during their conversation police noted she “stated she was at Waffle House in Atlanta.”

AdventHealth Remond EMS was called out to check on Collins to make sure she was physically OK before a field sobriety test was completed, and Collins was taken into custody.

Police located a cup inside her car with what they suspected was alcohol inside.

She was taken to the Polk County Jail less than a mile from where she parked and was booked on multiple charges. While being searched during intake at the jail, she was found with methamphetamine hidden on her person.

Collins remained in custody as of this posting without bond set on felony charges for possession of methamphetamine and crossing the state/county guard line with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent as well as misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI – child endangerment, a seat belt violation and an open container violation.
