REPORT: Homeless man jailed on meth charge

A homeless man who was spotted walking through a yard on Saturday midday ended up being taken into custody, and ultimately found with methamphetamine according to Cedartown Police reports.

CPD arrested Ricky Van Cuzzort, 61, on Hillside Drive on Saturday, September 16 around 12 p.m., when police responded to a complaint about suspicious person. Police heard from the homeowner who complained that Cuzzort had walked through her backyard toward Main Street.

Police caught up with him on Philpot Street, and he told police he had been camping out in the woods behind the residence, and was walking through the yard to get to Main Street.

He told police he had nothing on him, but based on officers’ prior criminal history indicated he might likely have some kind of narcotics on his person.

Cuzzort was searched and police ultimately found a bag of methamphetamine stuffed into a cigarette pack. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Polk County Jail.

He remained in custody on the single felony charge of possession of methamphetamine. Bond was set at $3,000.
