Release: Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Meeting for the Public

Note: The following item was provided by officials from the Polk County Emergency Management Agency. – KtE

Every five years each local government must update and resubmit for approval by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) a Hazard Mitigation Plan.

This plan must be adopted at the local level to enable eligibility for certain types of non-emergency disaster assistance grants.

This includes grants to allow Polk County to prepare and mitigate the potential effects of various disasters.

The Polk County Emergency Management Agency is tasked with the responsibility for the planning for disasters within Polk County. A key to our planning process during our Hazard Mitigation Plan Update involves public involvement.

This allows us to develop a more comprehensive approach to reducing the effects of natural and manmade disasters.

The public involvement meeting will take place on September 29, 2021 beginning at 11:00 A.M. at Polk County Emergency Management Agency Headquarters located at 55 Cline Ingram Jackson Road in Cedartown. We ask that any resident who wishes come and put their input in this update to make the community a safer and more prepared place.

For more information please contact Polk County Emergency Management with any questions regarding the Hazard Mitigation Plan at (770) 748-3439.
