A young elementary school student got the opportunity to provide a lesson about teamwork to the Polk School District during the Board of Education’s September regular session as he was honored this past Tuesday evening.
Levi Bradley is just first grander and got a standing ovation for his actions last month when he helped ensure his mother – suffering from a medical emergency – was able to get the care she needed in time to ensure she would recover fully.
Polk School District Police Officer Joe Weldon came before the Board of Education and told Levi’s story during a presentation of a Character Award during the September 14 meeting.
“About a month ago I learned of a phenomenal achievement of a young man that is here tonight,” he said. “He never panicked, he never wavered. He took care of his little sister, and when the paramedics arrived he flagged them down to show them where to come.”
He woke up at 4:30 a.m. on August 13 to get in the bed with his mother and wasn’t able to get her to wake. Weldon said he didn’t panic, called out for help from his grandfather, and 911 was called and got emergency services there in time.
“I just want to make sure his actions are known and make aware of what a special young man he is,” Weldon said for presenting Levi with the award.
Not only did he receive a certificate and recognition for his August lifesaving actions, but he also got a teamwork t-shirt presented by Superintendent Dr. Katie Thomas during the meeting as well.
“What a special little hero you are,” Thomas said. “We could not be more proud of you.”
Levi is a student at Cherokee Elementary School in Cedartown.
