As Iowa and New Hampshire wrapped up the Presidential primary with former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden both winners, Georgia is gearing up for the vote to decide party nominations in the state in March.

Voters will be asked to head to the polls on March 12 to decide the nominations for the GOP and Democratic parties, and before anyone can cast a ballot the Polk County Board of Elections will have a lot of preparations to complete.

Along with setting up voting machines and getting absentee ballots printed and mailed out, the Elections Office will need a influx of people to make sure that the voting process goes smoothly.

Poll Worker positions are open for hire in 2024, and Elections Director Noah Beck is hoping that anyone interested in getting involved in the process can get signed up and into job soon.

The first election date is coming up on March 12, but the three week early voting period prior to that will also need personnel to man precincts and make sure that people who need help casting a ballot have someone on hand to assist.

Beck said following votes over the past two years, natural turnover in poll workers have left the Elections office with a dire need for new help.

“We were able to bootstrap the November election 2023 and the run-off in December, but we will be hiring to fill positions for all of the votes we have coming up this year,” Beck said.

The positions are temporary and considered only part time with Polk County, but the real reward for signing up isn’t the cash. It’s the pride one gets from serving the community and ensuring elections on the local level run as they should be run.

Stephen Walker is handling applicants for the positions, so contact him at swalker@polkga.org or call the Board of Elections at 770-749-2103 for more information.

The deadline to be considered for a position is currently mid-February for applications to be received and enough time allowed for training before Early Voting begins for the presidential primary.
