
A woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and a man remains in custody after an argument over money ended with the victim being ran over by a car on Sunday evening, according to Polk County Police reports.
Officers arrested Jonathon Matthew White, 37, of a Rome address, after he was stopped by Cedartown Police after he drove away from The Farmers Store where the incident occurred on Sunday evening, June 23. The incident that occurred around 6:30 p.m. saw the female victim being run over by White behind the wheel after the two got into an argument about their financial situation.
White told police after he was stopped at Olive and Verne Streets in Cedartown that the victim attempted to choke him and he drove off to end the attack. Police noted in their report he had no visible injuries to him when he was taken into custody.
The report noted that White told officers he didn’t realize he had run over the victim when he drove away.
PCPD spoke to the victim, who confirmed the argument happened but that she attempted to grab the money the pair were fighting over out of the car when White drove off and ran her over.
Injuries were reported to her arm and torso after being rolled over by the fleeing vehicle. The victim was transported to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center in Rome for treatment.
White remained in the Polk County Jail without bond set as of this posting on a felony charge of aggravated assault, and a misdemeanor charge of driving while license suspended or revoked.
