Rockmart Police jailed a pair during a traffic stop after they found marijuana, a pill and a pistol in the vehicle after it was clocked going over 100 mph on Highway 278 on Tuesday, per reports.

Richard Codey Haddock, 21, of 900 Lost Silver Mine Road, Cisco, Georgia, and Chayla Michelle Duke, 21, of 35 Formby Trail, Aragon, were jailed on February 1, 2022, after being stopped by Rockmart Police at Highway 278 near mile marker 26. Police reported that Haddock was initially clocked in his 2014 Ford Explorer going 105 mph in a 65 mph zone. The SUV slowed down to 69 mph when they saw the officer with what was noted in the report to as Haddock “got on the brake rather heavily.”

Once pulled over, police immediately noted the odor of marijuana coming from inside and Haddock explained he knew “he was going too fast and explained that hew as just trying to get Duke to class.” Once they believed marijuana was in the car, Haddock and Duke were asked to step out and were taken into custody while police sought to find the marijuana in the car.

Haddock refused to cooperate, but Duke told officers where to find the marijuana within. Officers opened a blue box and found two bags of marijuana plus a pill later identified as an amphetamine within. Officers also found a Glock 19 in the glove box with a 31 round clip plus one round in the chamber.

Police later weighed the drugs and found it altogether to be less than an ounce. Because more than one bag was found, felony charges were applied.

Before being taken off, Duke told officers she had an additional bag of marijuana on her person that was a small amount, and she was allowed to remove it before she was booked and found with drugs before crossing the guard line, an additional felony charge.

Officers also noted that two puppies were in the car and taken by Polk County Animal Control during the arrest.

Both were booked and remained in jail on bond on felony and misdemeanor charges.

Haddock was charged with felonies for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, and marijuana – purchase, possession, manufacture, distribution or sale. Misdemeanors were also charged for speeding in excess of maximum limits, reckless driving, marijuana possession and drug not in original container.

He was held on a $30,000 bond and was later released from the Polk County Jail.
