A Treat Mountain man was jailed after he drunkenly killed a beloved pet lamb during a disagreement between him and his ex-wife, per Polk County Police reports.
Police arrested William Stacy Thomas, 54, of a Treat Mountain Road address in Cedartown on Saturday afternoon, November 26, 2022 after he ultimately admitted to officers his reasons for killing the pet lamb during the weekend incident.
Reports stated that police became aware of the incident after Thomas’ ex-wife called 911 reporting the death of the lamb named “Bonnie Blue Bell,” and the text she received with a photo of the deceased pet. The lamb was hit with a vehicle, cut with a knife and shot.
Police initially sought to meet the parties at the Esom Hill Fire Department, but when they arrived at the Treat Mountain Road house they contacted Thomas, and began investigating further.
Initially he denied the killing, but instead said he had slaughtered, butchered and eaten the lamb before disposing of the carcass at the dump. Police didn’t exactly believe this timeline as the reporting officer noted it would have been impossible in the timeline they laid out, and finding blood pools and trails, along with a trio of shell casings in the yard.
The ex-wife arrived at the scene, and police investigated further following an outburst and keeping both parties separated.
Officers noted blood trails that went down the driveway and onto Treat Mountain Road and tried to find the lamb, but were unable to locate its remains anywhere in the immediate area.
After contacting a judge and ultimately Thomas admitting what he had done as well as being intoxicated at the time, police took him into custody and charged him with a felony for aggravated cruelty to animals, and misdemeanors for discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and reckless driving.
Thomas after admitting to officers that he had killed the lamb because his ex had taken a car and his dogs. He had reported that to Polk County Police not long before the incident, but was told it was a civil matter to be brought before court proceedings during their divorce.
He initially tried to struggle with officers while being cuffed, but relented and was taken to the Polk County Jail where he remained until after bond was set at $10,000, and he was released after the bail was posted.
