William Andrew Austin

A dog was tased during an arrest of a man over the weekend on Antioch Road following a domestic altercation that also saw the victim struck in the mouth and choked, according to Polk County Police reports.

Officers arrested William Andrew Austin, 46, of a Cedartown address on Saturday night, January 4, 2025 on felony aggravated assault along with charges of misdemeanor simple battery, obstruction of law enforcement officers and battery.

Per the report, Polk County Police were dispatched to an Antioch Road address on Saturday night around 9:15 p.m. when they received a call about domestic violence. When officers arrived, they found Austin and a dog outside. The pit bull, which Austin wasn’t sure if it would bite, charged at an officer twice before a taser was used to subdue the dog temporarily.

The dog was reported to have been placed in the back of a truck during the rest of the incident despite Austin’s reluctance to do so initially. He also refused to cooperate with officers when asked for an ID, and later struggled with officers when he was taken to the ground when he simply told police “nope” when told to turn around and place his hands behind his back.

Austin attempted to resist police’s efforts to cuff him and take him onward to jail, but he was eventually forced into the back of PCPD vehicle while trying to continue avoid a trip to the Polk County Jail. He was also reported to have knocked his head on the window, and when he was checked out “refused to move his knee” so police could shut the door and carry him onward to booking.

Police later heard from the victim who had video of some of the incident that occurred, per the report. The victim alleged that Austin “punched (the victim) in the mouth and threw her to the ground because she closed a door to the house. The victim told police that Austin was bit during the altercation while they were being choked.

Austin remained in custody as of this posting on a $13,000 bond.
