PCPD: Woman charged after domestic incident earlier in the month

Savannah Kaile Henslee

A woman who tried to beat down a door with an axe was ultimately taken to the hospital, and was finally booked this weekend on a pair of offenses per Polk County Police reports.

Savannah Kaile Henslee, 33, of a Cedartown address, was taken into custody by the Polk County Sheriffs Office just after 9 a.m. on Sunday morning, May 26, on a pair of charges for criminal trespass and cruelty to children in the first degree – deprivation of sustenance.

Polk County Police reported that earlier in the month on May 7, Henslee was accused of attempting to beat down a door with an axe attempting to get at the victim who had locked themselves into a room.

Reports stated that Henslee was detained in handcuffs at the time due to her mental state and for the safety of others at the residence. She told police she needed to go to the hospital.

She would make that trip – especially after making threats of self-harm – but only after police got the full story of what happened.

The victim told police that they had gotten into an argument with Henslee during the incident, and Henslee had been off of her medication at the time. After the argument turned toward physical threats, the victim locked themself and a juvenile into a room.

Henslee tried to break the door down with an axe, but wasn’t successful. AdventHealth Redmond EMS took her to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Police returned to talk to the victim after Henslee was taken away by paramedics, and took a Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun into evidence that had been hers. The victim could not keep the weapon due to past legal issues, the report stated.

The cruelty to children charge stemmed from the lack of power at the residence and the use of a generator instead.

Henslee was released on a $4,600 bond on Monday after spending a day in the Polk County Jail on the pair of charges.
