Booger Hollow Road area residents who have been detoured for more than two years waiting for a bridge project to be finished will be glad to hear the wait is finally over.

Above are some photos above from Polk County Commissioner and barber Gary Martin, who noted on his Facebook that he was “the first to cross” the newly completed bridge on Booger Hollow Road near the intersection of Lewis Road.

A project that has been ongoing since 2019 and caused a portion of the roadway to be shut down while DOT replaced the bridge crossing at Lewis Road in the area around New Prospect Baptist.

The crossing over Lake Creek – technically in Floyd County – was originally scheduled to be replaced in 2017 when the project started with studies and engineering work. The DOT noted that the previous bridge was “structurally deficient and requires posting due to deteriorated abutments and corrosion on steel beams.”

It was replaced under the GDOT Low Impact Bridge Program.
