Mr. John Thomas Matthews, Sr., age 91, of Dallas, Georgia, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022, at his residence.

Mr. Matthews was born on August 18, 1930, in Dallas, Georgia, to Mr. Grady Woodford Matthews and Mrs. Jessie (Crowder) Matthews. He was married to Mrs. Annie Ethel (Black) Matthews for 70 years.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as an auto mechanic for Hardy Chevrolet for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son and brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Woodford (Jessie Crowder) Matthews: his brothers, Mr. Wayne Matthews, Mr. Henry Matthews, Mr. Alfred Matthews and Mr. Gene Matthews and his sisters, Mrs. Ruby Thompson and Mrs. Jane Mathis.

John is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Ann Matthews; his sons, Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Dean) Matthews and Mr. and Mrs. Tom (Michelene) Matthews; his grandchildren, Alan Matthews (Tasha), Lee Matthews and Jacque Lynn Brownlow (Matt); his great grandchildren, Bryson Matthews, Briley Matthews and Brooks Brownlow; his brothers, Mr. Doug Matthews and Mr. Guy Matthews and his sister, Mrs. Betty Jo Temple (Jesse).

Graveside Services for Mr. John Thomas Matthews, Sr. will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022, 4:00 P.M. at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Tibbitts officiating.

The family will be receiving friends on Monday, February 28, 2022, from 2:00 P.M. – 3:45 P.M. at Benson Funeral Home.
