Mr. Mickey Spinks Jr., age 75, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Saturday evening, April 8, 2023.
Mickey was born in Rockmart on February 9, 1948, son of the late George Milas Spinks, Sr., and Edna Brown Spinks. He had lived for a period of time in St. Simons Island, GA, but had lived the greater part of his life in Rockmart.
Mickey was a 1966 graduate of Rockmart High School, attended The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and was a graduate of West Georgia College, obtaining a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in biology and environmental services.
He had worked with the State of Georgia for over 15 years, DHR Carroll County for 5 years, and 10 years with EPD State of Georgia. He was a member of the Rockmart Masonic Lodge #97 F&AM where he was a Master Mason. Mickey enjoyed fly fishing and was an avid University of Georgia Bulldog football fan.
Mickey is survived by his loving wife, DeeDee Grier; daughter and son-in-law, Kendal and Trent Shepherd, of Rockmart; son, Hunter Spinks, of Aragon, GA; five grandchildren, Kelsey, Kaylen, Grace, Will and Braun.
A Celebration of Life for Mickey will be held Thursday afternoon, April 13, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home. Family and friends will deliver eulogies. Private interment will follow.
Mickey’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour.
Honorary pallbearers will include Will Spinks, Braun Spinks, Leslie Vogel, Lee Cummings, Sloan Barrow, Kenneth Carroll, Jerry Jackson, Alan Dean, Scot Dean, Trent Shepherd, and Ralph Morgan.
