Marie McWhorter Butler, 99, of Dallas, Ga., passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024.
She was born April 2, 1924 in Chattanooga, Tn., moving to Cedartown, Ga., at age nine with her parents, Thomas Anderson Willingham, Sr. and Annie Lee Mooney Willingham, who predeceased her. She is also preceded in death by her husband Roy R. Butler, Jr., brother T.A. Willingham, Jr., and sister-in-law Elizabeth Willingham.
She also will be missed by many cousins and close family friends to whom Marie was another “aunt” or “grandmother” figure.
Marie’s career spanned over 40 years at various corporations, including Campbell Coal Co., Peavy Concrete Products Co. and Lorilland. She retired after two decades with The Dow Chemical Company.
She was an active, long-time member of Sandy Springs United Methodist Church and the Joy Sunday School class. Most recently she served as a member of First Baptist Church in Rockmart, Ga.
Marie will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirit and sweet Southern charm. She never forgot a birthday and was still sending cards to friends and family at nearly 100 years old.
Funeral services for Marie will be held Sunday afternoon, January 21, 2024 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Rockmart with Rev. Jason Odom and Dr. David Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 pm until the funeral hour at First Baptist Church.
