Mr. Jerry Daniel Free, age 85, of Taylorsville, GA passed away Friday, September 2, 2022 at his residence.
Jerry was born in Rockmart, GA on July 17, 1937 a son of the late William M. “Bill” Free and the late Lessie Dell Hayes Free.
Mr. Free had lived all of his life in the Polk and Bartow county area and was a graduate of Rockmart High School. He was a founding member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and at the time of his death was the oldest member of the church. He also promoted many gospel singings in this area.
He enjoyed fishing, playing golf and was an avid fan of the University of Georgia football program. Jerry was a former owner and operator of three Standard Oil Company service stations in Cartersville.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Audrey Lee Free on October 11, 2018 to whom he was married on June 8, 1956 (62 years); by a sister Patricia Free Cantrell and by a brother, Dr. William Joseph Free.
Survivors include his two daughters and sons in law: Susan Hayes (Carey) and Terri Moore (Jimmy); four granddaughters: Mandy Watson (Shane), Marianne Wood (Aaron), Julie Moore (Chris) and Caroline Moore; six great grandchildren: Mason Watson (Adrea), Andrew Watson, Leanna Wood, Luke Wood, Lauren Wood and Audrey Claire Givens; sister in law and brother in law, Al and Elizabeth Currier. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Revs. Bill Avery, Tommy Harris and George Chastain officiating. Interment will follow in the Cornerstone Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include great grandsons Mason Watson, Andrew Watson and Luke Wood; grandson sons in law Aaron Wood and Shane Watson and nephews David Cantrell and Seth Currier. Honorary pallbearers will include: Gerald Free, Chris Givens, Al Currier, Henry Holmes, Grady Hames, Greg Hames and David Hicks.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
