Mr. Gary Johnson, age 75, of Centre, AL, and formerly of Rockmart passed away Tuesday evening, December 13, 2022, in a Rome, GA, hospital.
Gary was born in Chattanooga, TN, on July 21, 1947, a son of the late Charles Vernon Johnson and Doris Juanita Grant Johnson.
He had lived in Rockmart for 30 years, moving to Centre in 2018. Gary was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of Morning View Baptist Church.
He loved old cars, fishing, and trading old cars. He got his greatest pleasure from spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Cathy Grindle Johnson, whom he married in June of 1967; three daughters, Becky (Bert) White of Rockmart, Peggy (Jean-Pierre) Pimiento of Douglasville, GA, and Debbie (Donald) Sullivan of Centre; brothers and sisters, Linda Whiten, Sheila Thompson, Butch English, and Angie English. Eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Gary will be Friday afternoon, December 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Hulsey officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Brown-Wright Post #12 of the American Legion Honor Guard conferring military graveside rites.
Gary’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Friday afternoon from 12:00 noon until the service hour.
Pallbearers will include Greg Robinson, Josh Robinson, Whit Dunn, Bo Cline, Clark Dean, and Brandon Tolbert.
