Earth Day 2023 saw a small group of dedicated volunteers take to Peek Park and other places around the downtown Cedartown area to help ensure that the area is being kept free of litter and enjoyable for current and future generations of Polk County residents.

Volunteers started Saturday morning for Earth Day 2023 in Peek Park, and moved out from there around the city (including a stop by the Cedartown Depot.)

The annual volunteer event was part of a countywide effort to promote cleaning up the community by Keep Polk Beautiful, who additionally held a cleanup event alongside Polk County Rotarians on the eastern side of the county.

Jesse Cook and Larry Tolbert headed up efforts in Cedartown with a small group of volunteers on Saturday morning, and after finishing up in Peek Park moved out from there around Cedartown proper.

Cook encouraged volunteers who participated to take part in additional cleanup efforts held monthly on the first and second Tuesdays of each month (weather permitting.) Look for announcements about how to participate in those efforts via the Friends of Polk County Green Space by Keep Polk Beautiful Facebook page.

Unfortunately, time constraints limited my ability to get over to take photos of the Rockmart cleanup on Saturday morning. -KtE
