Jose Iglesias was previously a appointed County Commissioner, now giving it a second shot

Jose Iglesias

The final County Commission candidate for appointment is one who knows the job in store all too well. In fact, back in 2017 when Commissioner Jason Ward resigned from the board to move out of state, Jose Iglesias was appointed not long after to finish out his term.

From 2017 to 2018, Iglesias went through all the processes that a County Commissioner has to go through to hold the job: training from the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia, serving on committees and making tough choices that have to come before the board on a monthly basis. He’s worked on budgets and even went to Washington to lobby for money for widening of Marquette Road and to fund an Agriculture Center, back when Commissioners Scotty Tillery and Jennifer Hulsey were on the board.

Those days are past, and now Iglesias has forwarded his name to be considered for the District 1 appointment to fill Tillery’s remaining time.

The owner of Taxes de America, Iglesias’ recent experience with local government is service on the Cedartown Planning Commission. He also recently wrapped up an online degree with Liberty University in 2023, focusing on Government and Public Administration.

Husband to Giovanna, father to Efrain and Isaac, he has called Polk County home for his entire life and wants the chance to serve again.

He provided the following Letter of Intent to the County Commission just ahead of the deadline on Thursday, January 25 for candidates to send in their information:

Iglesias is one of seven candidates now up for consideration by the County Commission for the District 1 seat. The rest of the list includes Deborah Connelly, Janet Jolly Edwards, Derinda Stephens, Andrew Carter, Jordan Hubbard and James Vines.

The group will be fielding questions from County Commissioners during a forum on February 12 at 6 p.m. Find out more information about that here.
