Cedartown, Rockmart continue tradition of cleanups to celebrate the planet

Earth Day cleanups are scheduled for this weekend (weather permitting, of course) and the Keep Polk Beautiful is once again putting together events in Cedartown and Rockmart to ensure that everyone can participate in making Polk County a more beautiful place.

The City of Rockmart and Keep Polk Beautiful are coordinating efforts along with the Rotary Club of Polk County on Saturday, April 22 for Earth Day, opening up the day with cleanups going on around Seaborn Jones Park, options for getting rid of junk, and Rotarians are heading out on Hutchins Mountain Road to pickup trash as well.

The rain date for the cleanup efforts this weekend in Rockmart is (if the forecast turns out to be correct) might be on Saturday, April 29 instead. The National Weather Service has their extended forecast for the weekend calling for chances for rain and temperatures only up to 67 for the day.

The City of Rockmart is also planning additional cleanup efforts for those needing to get rid of additional household or yard waste. Crews will be out gathering items around the city curbsides on Saturday.

As the city also had to delay their Arbor Day celebration this year, they have a tree planting on the books as well for Saturday. Several trees will be going into the ground at the Skate Park for Earth Day.

Across the county, Cedartown’s cleanup will begin with volunteers gathering at the Peek Park Tennis Court on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. The cleanup will be centered around the Peek Park area, and will work around the park area (again, if weather permits.)

Saturday’s Great American Cleanup in Polk County also includes a Tire Amnesty Day for Earth Day 2023. Camp Antioch will host from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and allow up to four tires per household to be brought. No commercial or tractor tires will be accepted, and all rubber must be taken off the rims.

Check back for any additional updates about Saturday’s Great American Cleanup as they become available through the rest of the week.
