Mr. Dewey Rutledge

Mr. Dewey Rutledge, age 76, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Monday, December 18, 2023.

Mr. Rutledge was born in Cedartown to the late Ernest Scyril Rutledge and the late Stella Summerville Rutledge. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rutledge is preceded in death by his siblings, John S. Rutledge and Curtis Van Rutledge.

Mr. Rutledge is survived by his loving wife, Becky Rutledge; daughters, Johna Tidwell (Parker) and Julie Rutledge; sister, Caroline R. Evans; grandchildren, Taylor, Tillery (Landon), Hunter (Gabby), Grant, Ally (Aryn)and Darci; great-grandchildren, Walker, Stella, Millie, Hazel, Charlotte, Della, and one on the way, Valor and many special loving nieces and nephews. 

Dewey-formerly known as “Papa,” leaves a legacy that was built on compassion and unconditional love, not only for the love of his life of 53 years, but also as a son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a man of integrity and servanthood. To know him was to love him, and he never failed to meet a stranger. 

 His love and passion for athletics was never denied. As a lifelong sports fan, he made his mark as one of the most outstanding basketball players at Cedartown High School, where he became known as “The Cager.” Post-high school, he received a scholarship and became a Shorter Hawk. He also had a passion for music. During his spare time, he often enjoyed playing his guitar. 

He served in the United States Army in Vietnam.

He was employed for 28 years at the United Postal Service and retired in 1997. 

Throughout his life, he exemplified the importance of faith, family & friendship, and his love for Jesus Christ. 

Funeral services for Mr. Rutledge will be conducted Friday, December 22, 2023, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home, with Pastor Eddie Benefield officiating. Interment will follow in the Northview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, December 22, 2023, from 1:00 PM until the service hour at 3:00 PM at the Lester C. Litesey Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen will be pallbearers: Hunter Patterson, Grant Tidwell, Randy Rutledge, Todd Tillery, Clint Rutledge, Landon Rice, Aryn Watters, and Jordan Hubbard. Honorary pallbearers will be Breck Tillery, Russell Tillery, Clayton Tillery, Joshua Hubbard, Jacob Hubbard, Walker McCown, Keith Cheatwood, and Kevin Rutledge.
