The Development Authority of Polk County remained online for their July board meeting and heard from officials at Georgia Power on where best to focus efforts on bringing industry to Cedartown and Rockmart.
The presentation on target industries provided and overview of what industries are on the rise and what the DAPC can do to attract new partners to invest and bring new jobs to Polk County.
April Lucas, who oversees relations with Existing Industries, said the report looks at the statewide industries that are growing, and those around the area as well where much of the business is happening and money spent. For example, the healthcare industry is a growth sector in and around Polk County and therefore a potential investment would be in bringing a medical supply company to make their products here and cut down on their transportation costs to customers.
She added that statewide, attention is being put on electric vehicle manufacturing as a new target industry.
Alongside the Georgia Power report, the board approved minutes from their June meeting, financials from the past month and talked about new marketing efforts.
It also includes a brand new website redesign completed and launched in the past days, choosepolk.com. The site aims to provide potential investors in Polk with additional information about the county, existing industries with resources they can use in a variety of areas, and especially in new job postings to recruit workers in existing industries that are hiring.
