County Commissioners have the toughest job in the world ahead: who will fill the spot left vacant with the untimely passing of Scotty Tillery?

That’s a question they’ll see to answer next month with a forum planned for February 12.

Anyone interested in taking over the seat now open on the Board of Commissioners will have to first send a letter of interest and resume into the County before January 25, 2024 at 5 p.m. That will need to go to County Clerk Jaime Armstrong by email to jarmstrong@polkga.org.

NOTE: The Board of Commissioners is putting in a requirement that anyone interested must have been a resident of District 1 for at least one year.

Candidates who send in their information will then get a chance to answer questions from the County Commission in a forum setting on the second Monday of the month.

The forum will be open to the public. When Linda Liles was chosen to fill the seat previously, the County Commission held the same style forum on Zoom, but will follow the same procedure in person.

Currently the forum is set to be held in the Commission Meeting room at the Polk County Police Department headquarters at 73 Cline Ingram Jackson Drive, Cedartown. That location may change depending on how many candidates wish to seek the office.

Find out more information by contacting Armstrong by email or call 770-749-2100.
