The total number of COVID-19 cases is slowly ticking toward 200 in Polk County as the Georgia Department of Public Health reported their latest figures this afternoon.
Polk County had 192 total cases, marking the third day in a row of increased positives, totaling 14 for the week so far. Four new cases in total were added locally in the DPH report.
On Monday, the cases increase by six to 184 positives, and then another four were added on Tuesday to bring the total to 188. There was no change in the previous two days in the 15 hospitalizations reported in total or the single death caused by COVID-19 that occurred in May. Those figures remained the same for the midweek report on June 24.
The figures went up on the state level as well. After sitting at more than 64,000 cases as of last count, Georgia as of Tuesday afternoon had more than 67,500 cases and climbing. The number of deaths and hospitalizations have slowed, but continued to rise at the beginning of the week and on Tuesday afternoon sat at 2,687 deaths, and 10,121 hospitalizations. Out of the total number of people treated for COVID-19 in medical facilities around the state over the past months, as of Tuesday there were 2,173 people who needed treatment in intensive care. Some 874,123 Georgia residents have been tested overall for COVID-19 since reporting began in late February, and out of that only 8% of people have contracted the virus.
Those numbers went up again today, as Georgia now has 69,831 total positives that have been confirmed, and out of that 10,313 people have been hospitalized for the virus.
Sadly, today’s death toll stood at 2,698 Georgia residents due to COVID-19.
ICU admissions now stood at 2,206 people who needed more treatment than a regular hospital admission can provide.
Around the region, totals were increasing again. Bartow County now posted totals of 633 positives, 152 hospitalizations but remained flat at 39 deaths.
Paulding County now has 505 positives in total for COVID-19, with 88 people who have been hospitalized and 15 deaths.
Northward in Floyd County, their tally now sat at 457 positives for the virus that required 51 hospitalizations and 15 deaths. Southward in Haralson, COVID-19 positives stood at 67 people, and no movement in hospitalizations and deaths remaining at 16 and four respectively.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention now put the national total at 2,336,615 cases, which have been the cause of 121,117 deaths. That marked an increase of a new 34,313 cases at midweek, and 784 new deaths.
