Chamber announces return of Homespun with date set for October 2

The Homespun Festival was forced to take a year off in 2020 due to the pandemic, and instead of the annual summer event in downtown Rockmart it will be moving to fall for 2021.

The Polk County Chamber of Commerce announced on their Facebook page on Sunday that the Homespun Festival will be returning for 2021, with a date set for October 2.

Sunday’s announcement also included a note about the Chamber being in the process of re-organizing the event for this fall, and that additional details will follow.

Executive Director Marianne Wood said that vendors who are interested in taking part in the event will also have the opportunity to sign up before October and that additional details will follow about signups after a committee has an opportunity to make any changes needed for the applications.

The Homespun Festival – which has been held for more than 40 years since the late 1970s in Rockmart – has in years past included the Rockmart Kiwanis Club Car Show, an annual parade, the Rotary Club’s annual Duck Race, a 5K road race, helicopter rides, vendors, food, and musical entertainment that stretches over a day and a half.

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced organizers to call off the mid-July event during a spike in new cases at the time. The event has also seen washouts that have forced the cancellation of the festival midway through. The move to October will hopefully provide better weather for the annual event this year.

Check back for additional details about the Homespun Festival as they become available.
