Mrs. Carol Chapman Smith

Mrs. Carol Chapman Smith, age 75 of Rockmart, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Wesley Woods of Newnan with family surrounding her.

Mrs. Smith was born March 29, 1947 in Anderson, SC, daughter of the late J. Wilbur Chapman and the late Myra Kay Chapman of Hartwell, GA.  She graduated from Hart County High School in 1965 and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1969 with a degree in Art and Interior Design.

Mrs. Smith married the late Steven (Steve) Bennett Smith on July 20,1969. They shared 42 wonderful years together.  She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Rockmart where she served in various children’s ministries including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, AWANA, and as a chaperone for various youth trips.  She prepared meals for people and organized the serving of meals whenever there was a need within the church.  She was a faithful member of the church handbell choir.  She used her artistic talents and interior design skills within the church and community in many different ways.

To know Carol was to love her.  She was genuine, kind, loving, caring, giving, and welcoming.  She had a smile and joyful spirit that would brighten your day.  She was continually blessing others with her time and talents.  She loved all people and would do anything for anyone.  She was gifted artistically in many ways and used these gifts to bless others.  She also enjoyed helping and working at the family store, Smith-Lockwood Drug Store.

As Alzheimer’s disease gradually robbed her of physical and mental capacities, she never lost her sweet spirit.  She resided at Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City for the past 10 years.  She received phenomenal love and care from the staff at Wesley Woods, the staff from Homestead Hospice, and her loving daughters.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, J. Wilbur and Myra Kay Chapman; her loving husband, Steven (Steve) Bennett Smith; mother-in-law and father-in-law O.E. and Winnie Smith; sister-in-laws Rae Smith and Liliane Chapman; brother-in-law Dr. Paul Smith; nephews Brad Chapman, Eric Chapman, and Bryan Smith.
