Board of Education to hold special session Tuesday morning for property purchase, strategic waiver request

The Polk County Board of Education is set to meet on Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Central Office as they hold a special session to consider a new property purchase and a contract request, per an agenda sent this evening.

Board officials are voting on whether the PSD will be purchasing a Carlton Drive property for $275,000 from Mark and Melody Terry, which borders on the Agriculture Education Center at Rockmart High School.

The PSD will be paying for the property in full with one payment if approved by the Board of Education.

The board will also be voting on an annual requirement for the system’s contract with the State Board of Education to continue operating as a Strategic Waiver School System. It basically allows for the PSD to enjoy “increased flexibility from certain state laws, rules, and regulations in exchange for increased accountability and defined consequences.”

If approved by the Board of Education, it goes before the state for final approval.

Check back for more on the results of Tuesday’s special session.
