A new heater is needed for Van Wert Elementary School, but officials are hoping to get a jump on the fixes in place for the current unit and order a new one as soon as possible.

This is the reason why the Polk County Board of Education is set to hold a special called session on Friday morning starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Central Office in Cedartown.

Van Wert’s new heater is the only item on the agenda for the upcoming session, which should only take a few minutes to conclude.

The board is being sought for the vote now due to the potentially limited time remaining on the life of one of the heaters at the school.

Superintendent Dr. Katie Thomas said that a temporary fix is in place to keep students warm during the chilly days of late fall and the upcoming winter months, but the hopes are that it will keep until the new unit arrives and avoid supply chain issues that have caused delays for everyone in recent years.

“They have heat, but every day counts when waiting on equipment nowadays,” Thomas said.
