Mr. Alton Parker Gilmore Jr.

Mr. Alton Parker Gilmore Jr., of Cedartown, GA. passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022.

Mr. Gilmore was born on November 18, 1933, to the late Blanche and Alton Gilmore Sr.

Mr. Gilmore graduated from Cedartown High School in 1952. He then attended the Univesity of Georgia and graduated in 1959, and he went on to receive his Master’s Degree at Atlanta University in Education Administration.

He proudly served in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954. Alton was a teacher for over 45 years in Polk School District.

He coached football, basketball, and other school sports. He served as Assistant Superintendent and taught Adult Education and English as Second Language Classes after retirement.

During his spare time, he loved spending time with his grandchild and great-grandchild, listening to and watching sports (the Cedartown Bulldogs and Georgia Bulldogs football), Geology/Rockhound, and watching Fox News.

Surviving is his wife, Joan Gilmore; sons, David Gilmore, Michael Gilmore (Michelle), and Brian Gilmore (Traci); sister, Anne Gilmore Hightower; niece Deborah Bradberry; nephew, Robert Bradberry; niece, Martha Bradberry Brick-Gorun; grandchildren, Katie Mahieu (Ryan), Aiden Gilmore, and Aaron Gilmore; great-grandchild, Griffin Mahieu.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at three o’clock in the afternoon at St. Bernadette Roman Catholic Church in Cedartown, Georgia. The wake will begin at one o’clock that afternoon until the funeral hour at the church, with Father Timothy Gallager officiating. The interment will be held following the Mass at The North View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for memorial donations to be made to the St. Bernadette Catholic Church or a charity of your choice.
