Preparations were underway ahead of the Youth Summerfest/Stockings of Love on Thursday evening as backpacks were loaded up with supplies to hand out to children in the 22nd annual event, that this year is following social distancing guidelines and having everything ready to load in cars in the morning.
Organizers spent Thursday evening in the Bert Wood Youth and Athletic Center gymnasium packing the bags with supplies for the annual free giveaway to youth in need. Usually there’s opportunities for fun and game during the annual event at the Church Olympics, but the 2020 edition is focusing instead of social distancing protocols put in place, and a drive-thru line-up that includes school supplies, a sack lunch and a chance to briefly look over free clothing available to the community.
Note the supplies are only for youth Pre-K through 12th grade.
Only 10 people at a time can pick out clothing for 10 minutes.
The Youth Summerfest/Stockings of Love will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday, July 25.) Participants will have to make it to the event themselves this year as well.
Bert Wood Youth and Athletic Center is located at 605 Lynton Drive, Cedartown.
