Westside second-grader brings candy for classmates for Halloween

A local second-grader made sure that every student got a chance to enjoy some candy this year, and used her own money to do it.

Westside Elementary’s BriLeie Perry was honored by the Polk School District on Facebook for her efforts to ensure that every student at her school had treats for Halloween, worried that some might not be able to get out to Trick-or-Treat in the community.

The post explained that because of the COVID-19 restrictions in place, it might have prevented her from getting out for Halloween this coming Saturday and told her mom she wanted to do something nice for her friends at school.

“With just a little over $200 of her own money in savings, she asked if she could use it to treat the students at Westside. She said it was the right thing to do and the teachers and Mrs. Little help her and the other kids every day,” the post said.

BriLeie’s kindness ultimately allowed for every child at the school to receive a Halloween goody bag with candy this year.

“BriLeie, your kind heart and desire to help your friends has not gone unnoticed! We are #PSDproud of you!” the post concluded.
