There’s still plenty more votes to be counted (and even a few more to be cast) across the country tonight as polling places remain open on the West Coast and elections officials are hard at work counting up the ballots.
Here in Polk County, that work is completely done.
County officials finished up all of their business completed by 8:30 p.m. for the unofficial results posted for the 2024 Election, with former President Donald Trump carrying Polk County by a wide majority of local voters.
Out of the 19,268 ballots cast by 7 p.m. on Election Day (including the early vote count and absentee ballots,) former President Trump and Senator JD Vance carried the district 15,349 to 3,747 votes, or a 79.6% to 19.4% split against Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz.

It is the third time in a row that Trump has carried the Countywide vote for President.
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene was also on her way to a big victory in the 14th District Congressional Race, winning 14,491 or 77.19% of Polk County’s voters, versus local Ret. Gen. Shawn Harris for the Democratic challenge who garnered 4,295 votes, or 22.86% of the vote.
She held a 2-1 majority over Harris as votes were still being counted districtwide as of this evening.
The only other items decided on the ballot that were contests were three ballot questions. Polk County voters approved all three of the votes, with the closest being a 9,164 to 8,635 count in favor of allowing a Georgia Tax Court to be established. The other questions over Homestead Exemptions and personal property tax exemption increases were approved with a wider margin.
All the other candidates on the ballot for state and local seats went uncontested in Polk County.

The vote count was completed much earlier than expected on Tuesday night after record numbers of early voters participated. Polk saw 73% of the registered voters cast a ballot overall in the Tuesday election.
“We are glad we were able to complete our tally in a timely fashion tonight,” said Noah Beck, Polk County Elections Director. “Our county continues to make great strides in ensuring that we provide an accurate count of our ballots while also understanding that voters want to see results as fast as possible. I believe we achieved that goal tonight and the credit goes toward to the diligent work of our poll workers and managers who did an excellent job this election cycle.”
No issues were reported by local officials with voting in Polk County throughout Election Day.
