It is hard to describe what it is like to be at an event like the third Dark show for Rome Wrestling Entertainment without a crowd. One usually expects fans cheering and heckling the wrestlers as they fight, waving signs and screaming out the names of their favorite wrestlers.
When RWE went live for their January 12 event on Facebook, the only people in the building were the crew and the men about to grapple in the ring when their turn came.
Even without the crowd, the action in the ring and front of the camera was enough to grab your attention and keep it.
For around an hour last Tuesday, fans got to watch the leadup to what is coming up this Saturday in downtown Rome at Peaches: The Broad Street Bash, the third live and pay-per-view show that will feature everything from no disqualification title matches to a “Referees Debate” to determine who will be the head official for the RWE, and so much more it is hard to describe.
The organization – which was born in 2016 through the efforts of David Holbrooks – took a hiatus for several years and returned last April when he and Coach Dalton Gowens came together to put their efforts into bringing RWE back. Last April the organizing began, and not long after they had a roster of wrestlers, people willing to help with the audio and video, and commentators who help provide context to what’s happening on screens small and large.
“I’ve always said if I have the manpower, which would be the roster, the character, the strength and the health, and if I had the resources: the ring, the lights and the building, and if I had the time, that we would at least give it another try,” Holbrooks said.
Now he has what he needs to put on a great show for all.
When they return to business this Saturday, the stage area around Peaches will have a 16-foot square ring setup and ready for fans to watch the action with the first bell expected at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
Check out this brief livestream from Gowens for the full card.
Tickets are available now through Freshtix, and are $10 for 21 and over, and $15 for those not of drinking age. On the night of the event, tickets will be $15 at the door for all ages.
With all the matches set for Saturday, Gowens said that fans will have no problem enjoying their night at Peaches.
“It’s been great for us,” he said. “We put on a good product, and I think everyone can see it.”
