The American Legion Post 12 hosted local residents and dignitaries alike for a service on Monday afternoon honoring those who sacrificed all from Rockmart and Polk County for the annual remembrance service on Memorial Day.
The service included some brief remarks from Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and local pastor Roger Parris, who served in Vietnam as the helmsman for the aircraft carrier USS Independence.
It was one of the larger gatherings in recent years at the Memorial Day Service at the Veteran’s Memorial at Seaborn Jones Park.
Monday also marked a return to normalcy of tradition with the service being held following a year without Memorial Day remembrances due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s growth during May 2020.
