The March work session provided an opportunity for Polk School District’s educators who are retired to honor someone who is just getting started in their career.

Tuesday’s session of the Polk County Board of Education provided the venue for the Polk Retired Educators Association to give out their annual New Teacher Grant.

This year’s recipient is Sheena Stringer, a Pre-K teacher at Van Wert Elementary School.

The University of West Georgia grad will be able to use the funds on a classroom project and supplies to further lessons for youth just getting started in their education.

PREA’s Judy Angle presented the grant award to Stringer on Tuesday, and talked briefly about the goals of PREA to provide support, offer opportunities for service and more within the organization.

The Board of Education also went through a brief discussion of upcoming decisions facing the board during their work session, that last just under 10 minutes before going into executive session for personnel discussions.

Board members gather again on March 9 at 6 p.m. for their regular session.
