Power tools were supplemented by many hands to help with cleanup efforts along the Silver Comet Trail for a portion around the Vinson Mountain trailhead entrance on Sunday as part of an effort by a local organization to give back.

The Tori Luke Foundation had dozens of youth and adult volunteers out on the trail – starting on Saturday for some – on Sunday, May 16 providing much-needed trail maintenance along a stretch of the route, which included trimming trees, grass and using leaf blowers to clear the path for walkers and cyclists alike.

Steve Luke, former Rockmart Softball coach and father of Tori Luke for whom the organization was founded in her honor, said that he was thankful for all who came out to participate and provide their assistance with trail maintenance.

He added the organization still has a limited number of shirts and copies of Tori’s journal in print form for sale locally for those who are interested. Find out more about the efforts of The Tori Luke Foundation on their Facebook page.

Among their projects this year is utilizing some of the funds raised to provide scholarship opportunities for Cedartown and Rockmart High School students.

The winners of those scholarships will be announced during Cedartown and Rockmart’s senior awards nights coming up later this month ahead of graduation.

Check back for more on future events being held by the Foundation and any fundraisers they might hold.
